This firm was started by Sarah Stanley, Owner and CEO, because, after years of processing unemployment claims, she saw four major issues with the Unemployment Insurance process with in state governments. The 5 Biggest UI Benefit Misconceptions


Myth 1. Unemployment Insurance Is Paid for By Tax Payers.
Fact: Unemployment insurance is paid for by any employer you are awarded with who you worked for in your base period. 

Myth 2. Unemployment Is Welfare OR People on Unemployment Are Lazy
Fact: To receive Unemployment Benefits, you must have worked for an employer for a substantial amount of time and earned wages. Once awarded benefits through an employer, your ability to receive payment is only for a short time(maximum is 26-weeks) at which point you would no longer be able to receive any payment. 

Myth 3. Quitting or Being Fired Automatically Disqualifies Me
Fact: An award of benefits for a separation is judged by who is at fault for the separation- if you quit or were laid off for reasons outside of your control, you may be awarded benefits. To assess whether or not you may be eligible for UI Benefits, our firm assesses on an individual basis. 

Myth 4. The Employer You Most Recently Separated Against Pays for Your UI Benefits
Fact: Unemployment insurance is paid for by any employer you are awarded with who you worked for in your base period. It's possible to have a separation from your most recent employer that could allow for UI Benefits, but that can be disqualified for not being with in your base period. 

Myth 5. Unemployment Insurance Will Supplement My Income
Fact: Typically UI Benefits will only pay out approximately 1/3 of the wages you earned in the base period. This can vary drastically person to person depending on who you worked for in your base period and who you are awarded benefits with.
